George Ripley was born October 3, 1802 and died July 4, 1880. He was a Unitarian minister. George Ripley was a big inspiration toward Transcendentalism. He laid down the foundation for Transcendentalism by founding a club which he called the Transcendental club. Without Ripley the movement would have been incomplete do to lack of foundational support. Ripley helped found and hosted the first official meeting in his house in 1836. He earned the nickname brotherhood of the like-minded for the club. He was chosen to be the managing editor of the Transcendental publication, The Dial. Ripley also contributed essays and reviews to The Dial. He did not believe what the church was teaching because it was to diverse. He split from the Ministry on October 3, 1840. He read a huge lecture on how he thought the ministry was wrong with Unitarianism. He is important because he contributed a lot of money to the club, and helped out the ministry.
Ripley proceeded to work for the Greeley Tribune for $12 a week. Ripley helped start the breaking away from New England's philosophy, culture, religion, and more. Ripley as well as others wanted what all transcendentalists wanted; individual freedom and humane relationships. At the Brooke farms they believed that physical labor gave them a sense of well being and harmony for their spirit. Transcendentalists sought out harmony the most. They also could make a they could create a perfect place for a small group of people. That would later on serve as a model of the social macrocosm. Brooke farm and transcendentalism have some what stuff in common such as the Unitarian church. It became a point between transcendentalism and brooke farms. They also tried to live their lives by the transcendentalism. They wanted their whole lives around transcendentalism. Brook Farm held many of the principles of Transcendentalists. Brooke farm was inportant to everyone becuase it was a colony of the transcedentalism. They all tried to make everything equal, but after all this was over it ended up all being unfair to them.
